Emily & Alan’s Romantic Autumn Wedding in Shades of Navy Blue and Emerald Green
We love how Emily and Alan brought a little Scottish history with them to our sweet town of Franklin, TN. They combined Alan’s Scottish heritage with Emily’s southern roots in the most simple but meaningful ways. The blue thistle, Scotland’s national flower, was used in the wedding party bouquets and boutonnieres and the groom and his gents wore dashing kilts in their own family’s tartan. And who could refuse the best party favors any wedding guest would love to receive at the end of the night: mini bottles of Scottish whiskey and candy. Mmm, yes please!
Getting Ready
This lovely couple met by chance while traveling in Amsterdam …a total rom-com moment! Alan was so infatuated with Emily that he traveled from Scotland to France while she was studying abroad. In 2017, he surprised her with a romantic proposal while sailing together and the rest is history!
The First Look
The moment Emily and her mother stepped foot into CJ’s, they were instantly drawn to the history of the house and the secret garden. After one meeting, Emily knew our venue was the perfect fit for her dream wedding.
The Wedding Style
Using the groom’s family tartan for color inspiration, Emily worked with our planning team to create a beautiful celebration. She chose fruitwood folding chairs for the garden ceremony for a warm, natural look. A floral crown made of white blooms with a touch of blue Scottish thistle was hung on the gazebo as a focal point for the wedding ceremony. Navy blue and emerald green (inspired by the Mackay plaid) were used throughout the reception. Strips of the Mackay tartan fabric to tie the silverware at each place setting. A simple, but beautiful touch that felt both Scottish and Southern at the same time. I mean, what Southern girl doesn’t love a bit of plaid!
The Ceremony
As guests arrived, they were welcomed by ethereal sounds of the harp. It was truly magical! We also loved that Emily and Alan incorporated a Celtic knot ceremony into their wedding. The family’s tartan was wrapped around their embracing hands to symbolize the two coming together as one. It was a beautiful and touching moment. They also read their own vows to each other which brought tears to even the most stoic of guests.

The Reception
And of course it wouldn’t be a Scottish wedding without a roaring celebration to follow the ceremony. After they cut the cake, Emily, Alan and their international guest list never left the dance floor… dancing the night away to the sounds of the Emerald City Band. What an incredible night for these two! Slàinte mhath! (That’s “Cheers!” in Scotch Gaelic)
