Creating beautiful, custom wedding invitations for our clients is so much fun! But even the most breath-taking design can lose its impact when it arrives crumpled or late. To avoid these mishaps, follow our 5 rules for mailing your wedding invitations.

1. Mail all invitations at the same time, six to eight weeks before the wedding date, using first class postage.
2. If you are enclosing response cards in your invitations, remember to include stamps on the return envelopes.
3. Assembled invitations often require additional postage. To avoid postage delays and returned invitations, take a completely assembled invitation to your post office to determine proper postage before applying the stamps to your envelopes.
4. Once your invitations are assembled, stamped and ready to go, take them to the post office personally and ask to “hand cancel” them to avoid discoloration, bar code printing and tearing when the invitation is run through a machine to cancel the postage. There is no charge to do this. Simply ask for the hand canceling stamp at the desk. You cannot take this stamp home, it must stay at the post office, so allow extra time to hand cancel each of your invitations.
5. Be sure to include a return address on each outer envelope just in case any error was made on the delivery address. This way you will know a guest did not receive the invitation and can quickly get a new envelope addressed and in the mail ASAP.
